Project 2/52

Phew, if I’m not careful I could really get behind on this.

2/52

Valerie - September 30, 2010 - 7:24 am

Love your bangs!

Miss those sweet kiddos.

Paula - September 30, 2010 - 8:13 am

Ditto on the bangs..And the highlights!

hannah - September 30, 2010 - 10:43 am

so gorgeous!

Cat Mayer - October 1, 2010 - 4:45 pm

i’m so glad you have a blog now. visiting it makes me happy. ps. ryan is a great photographer.

Jami - October 1, 2010 - 5:40 pm

Oh Cat, that’s ALL tripod. Ryan’s not too shabby, but I think I may be on my own for this project.

~Fun Fast Facts~

1. Biggest Crush~John Travolta

2. All time favorite movie~Urban Cowboy. Not sure how many times I’ve seen it, but whatever the number, it’s embarrassing.

3. 2010 Halloween costume~Sissy (forcing Ryan to be Bud).  Anyone know where I can get a stick-on chin dimple?  ;-)

4. Favorite food~ Mexican.  The kickier the better.  Yes, that’s a word.

5. Favorite drink~Diet Coke/Pepsi.  Hopelessly addicted.  Don’t even want to stop.

6. Biggest fear~My children having to be without me.

7. Greatest triumph~ completely bamboozling my husband into marrying me.  Yeah, I’m not sure if that’s a word.  But, I’m a lucky girl.

8. Thing I loathe the most~Hair in unwanted places.  Seriously annoying.  Not that I have any, but I know people who do.

9. Hardest lesson to learn~ understanding that not everyone is going to like me and being OK with that.  This seriously took me 34 years people.

10. My #1 fan~ My Mother.  What is it about them?  They undeniably love you no matter what.

*Side Note*

Although this may not be interesting to the general public, my children might find it humorous to know bits and pieces of who I was someday.  Or find it completely humiliating.  Either way.

Valerie - September 28, 2010 - 7:13 pm

LOVE this post. LOVE. Do this more, k?

Favorites: Greatest Triumph. Made me smile so big. HUGE.

Love that you’re dressing up. I need to bring it this year. What should I be?

Oh, and your #2 fan? That would be me. (totally okay with having to shove your family out of the way …)

Wayne - September 28, 2010 - 7:39 pm

I love the B&W pics…that little girl of yours looks like she has a bit of attitude…the good kind :)

hannah - September 29, 2010 - 8:04 am

#8 made me laugh right out loud.

Cat Mayer - September 29, 2010 - 5:11 pm

I like you!

Jess - September 30, 2010 - 3:00 pm

I love re-knowing (yes, that is a word too) you. Although nothing I learn about who you are now is a surprise to me, as I feel lucky enough to have known that you are special (the good kind) and kind and nurturing – for over half our lives. Thanks for letting me peek in on your beautiful life.

Amy - September 30, 2010 - 5:14 pm

Have I ever told you that when I first saw you I knew it was friendship at first site? Well…this list confirms why I like you so much. We do share a common thread or two or three or…you know what I mean. You are a pretty cool chica, my friend!

Rarity….

Someone to snap a photo of me with my guy.

And what a guy he is.

Valerie - September 26, 2010 - 8:26 pm

What a GREAT photograph. Of my favorite other couple.
Love that car. That car!
But mostly I just love you. And Ryan, probably you, too.

Cat - September 27, 2010 - 12:45 pm

Beautiful and HAPPY.

hannah - September 27, 2010 - 4:51 pm

great shot!

Dee-lish.

On a lighter note today, here are some sweet little shots from several of the delightful candy shops in Estes Park.

Each of the kids were given $5.

Cache blew through hers in just under 30 seconds.  Filling her brown paper bag with a variety of confectionaries.

Reece, on the other hand went for the big ticket item.

A $2 dark chocolate TRUFFLE. (as seen in photo below)

As I watched them filling their bags, I was reminded of my own mother giving me $5 to fill up a bag.

“Anything you want” she would say.

$5 bought a whole lot in 1980.  Not so much in 2010.

I would spend all week munching my way through the nougats, gummies and bars that were at my disposal.

(How I didn’t end up with an eating disorder is beyond me)

All time faves:  candy cigarettes and beef jerky tobacco.

Of course I was going to let my kiddos indulge.

ENJOY.

Valerie - September 24, 2010 - 8:54 pm

CUTE story!!

Teach me how to do Claire’s hair like that.

Next time … do the kids get more than $5?

I love all the details.

The shot of Reece with his money on the counter. Dark chocolate? What a STUD.

Miss those kiddos soooo much.

What were their favorites?

XOXO.

Jami - September 24, 2010 - 9:31 pm

Hair. Piece of cake. It’s my go to do.

Next time, they may have to get more than $5. Cache already had to float a loan in the first 3 minutes. And she still hasn’t paid us back. :-)
Reece is a dark chocolate connoisseur. The darker the better. Much too refined for Hersheys Milk for sure.

Favorites were definitely the Root Beer barrels and the cigs. Can’t beat your parents letting you pretend to smoke. I figure why not. I grew up on ‘em and have always loathed the real thing. Crossing fingers they don’t get addicted. :-)

When are you coming home? Soon?

Julie - September 25, 2010 - 9:36 pm

Estes is my favorite…even more the sweet shops there!

Peace

The weekend can definitely get away from me.  Weekdays are so busy, and the kids work so hard, that I just want to

BREATHE.

I NEED MY KIDS TO breathe.

I want them to have a soft place to fall.  Time to reflect.  And most of all, Peace.

I could fall off the grid and never look back.  Live off the land.  Homeschool.  Bake.  Gather eggs.

Grind my wheat.  Nourish little bodies.  Immerse myself in the melodic tunes of my favorite female artists.

Love and Laugh and really Live.

I would wear an apron (like this super cuteness I purchased just a couple of weeks ago.)

Dresses for sure. And baskets of fresh flowers and produce.

Books.  Books that smell old, but loved.

And photos.  Capturing and preserving this most amazing time in life.

Time that we can’t get back.

Time that I will forget if I don’t print it up and store it away.

Why don’t we live like this?

Does anyone really enjoy the hustle and bustle?

Maybe it’s not for everyone.

But, today this is the song for me.

Far Away

Rachelle - September 22, 2010 - 4:32 pm

Love the socks…can’t wait for Chloe to give hers a run.

And my friend, only you can guess what I love even more!

“Is that MY Bear?” LOL

Jami - September 22, 2010 - 4:48 pm

No, that’s not your bear, woman. Note the very characteristic scuffs on his face. He’s definitely mine!! LOL

hannah - September 22, 2010 - 4:59 pm

woah- I could have written this! Maybe us hippie-wannabes should buy a big piece of land, move together, and send our kids skipping through fields of wildflowers to eachother’s houses to borrow cups of sugar and such. ahhhhhh…. Oh, and I love any and everything Anthropologie, I love the apron and I love the last picture of C. and those socks! I need some for B.

Valerie - September 22, 2010 - 7:44 pm

Just happy. That face. Makes me happy.

Jami - September 22, 2010 - 10:34 pm

Oh Hannah. I am such a wannabe. Well, not really. I still want to look cute and shave my legs. So I don’t really wanna be a hippy. But OH how I would love to live on a compound. Did you ever see The Village?
I want that. Without all the creepy.
Socks are MJ. So cute. So girly. And so over the top.

Sally DeFord - September 29, 2010 - 1:26 pm

I’m glad you sent out your blog address. Great pictures. I love the look and feel you are going for.

Kathy - October 13, 2010 - 5:39 am

J-

From your friend in NYC. I actually couldn’t agree more. I have loved my 6 years in the BIG CITY, but this small town girl is ready to plant her roots and slow down. I want to enjoy the simple yet unforgettable things in life.
You are truly a woman who understands the more precious moments in life. For that I am honored to call you a friend.

Kisses from the East….
K

Hello Jami, I just stumbled across your blog and I must say that I am in LOVE with your photography!! So beautiful! I am new to photography and just recently purchased my first DSLR in December. I’ve been trying to read everything I can about it, but sometimes I still feel overwhelmed and that I’ll NEVER master the camera! :( I am also trying to figure out the editing process. Gosh, I have so many questions! I hope I don’t bother you by asking!! How do you achieve such bright and colorful portraits and smooth skin tones? Is there a book or tutorial that you would recommend? Do you use any “actions” to create the effects? I feel so lost sometimes with my photography journey! I hope to someday be just HALF as good as you are! Thanks so much! Oh, I’m from Paris Texas…I haven’t read yet where you are from, but I’m glad to have stumbled across your blog! :)

Jami - March 22, 2011 - 6:36 pm

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your sweet comments. And please. Ask away. Anything you want to know I will share. All I can say is “practice, practice, practice.”
